What is ClickUp MCP?

The ClickUp MCP server gives AI agents access to your ClickUp work-management data. That means agents can browse your full hierarchy of workspaces, spaces, folders, and lists, read the tasks inside any list, create new tasks with statuses, priorities, due dates, assignees, and tags, update existing tasks, post comments, and spin up new lists and folders. It works across the objects your team already lives in, so an agent can navigate a project the same way a person would.

If your team spends time opening ClickUp to create tasks, nudge statuses forward, or copy task details into status updates, an AI agent can take over a lot of that busywork. Describe what you need, and your AI agent will handle the task management for you.

MCP stands for Model Context Protocol. It’s an open standard that gives AI agents a way to connect to external tools and services. Instead of registering your own OAuth app, wiring up client IDs and secrets, and handling ClickUp API pagination yourself, you connect your ClickUp account to Gumloop once. After that, you can run your projects just by chatting with your AI agent.

What you can do with ClickUp MCP on Gumloop

  • Browse your ClickUp hierarchy

Walk the full container structure an agent needs to find work: list your workspaces, the spaces inside them, the folders inside a space, and the lists inside a folder or space. Your AI agent can locate the right list without you clicking through into ClickUp.

  • Read tasks from any list

Pull tasks from a specific list with filters for archived, closed, and subtask visibility, or fetch a single task by ID (including custom task IDs). An agent can summarize what’s open, what’s overdue, or what changed.

  • Create tasks with full detail

Create tasks in a list with a name, description, status, priority (urgent, high, normal, or low), due dates with an optional time, assignees, and tags. Your agent can file structured, ready-to-work tasks in one step.

  • Update tasks as work moves

Change a task’s name, description, status, priority, or due date. An agent can push items through your workflow, reschedule due dates, or clean up details across a list.

  • Post comments on tasks

Add comments to any task, optionally assigned to a teammate, so an agent can leave context, ask a question, or flag a blocker without anyone opening ClickUp.

  • Build project structure

Create new lists and folders inside a space so an agent can stand up the scaffolding for a new project, client, or sprint before seeding it with tasks.

How to connect the Gumloop ClickUp MCP Server

  1. Create a Gumloop account

Sign up at gumloop.com. Every new account starts with a 14-day free trial.

  2. Add the ClickUp MCP server

Copy your MCP server URL from Gumloop and add it to your preferred client (Claude, Cursor, or Gumloop workflows). You'll authorize on first use.

  3. Start using ClickUp in your AI workflows

That's it. Your AI agent can now browse your workspace, read and file tasks, update statuses, and post comments across your ClickUp projects. Use it inside a Gumloop automation, in Claude Desktop, or in Cursor.

ClickUp MCP use cases

  • Task intake and triage for operations teams

An agent can read new tasks landing in an intake list, categorize each one, set the right status and priority, and post a comment tagging the owner. Ops teams get a groomed backlog instead of a pile of unsorted requests.

  • Project status reporting for project managers

Pull tasks across the lists in a project, summarize what moved, what’s overdue, and what’s blocked, and drop a clean status update into Slack or a Google Sheet. PMs get a current snapshot without exporting anything by hand.

  • Turn requests into ClickUp tasks from any channel

When a request comes in through Gmail, Slack, or a form, a Gumloop agent can create a fully detailed ClickUp task in the right list, with priority and due date set, and comment back with a link. Intake stops falling through the cracks.

  • Automated standup summaries for team leads

Each morning, an agent can read the tasks in a team’s lists, summarize progress since yesterday, and post a standup digest to Slack. Leads walk into the meeting already knowing where things stand.

  • Project scaffolding for client or sprint kickoff

When a new client or sprint starts, an agent can create the folders and lists your template calls for, then seed each list with the standard starter tasks. New projects go from empty to ready in one run.

Why use Gumloop for ClickUp MCP

  • Connect once, no OAuth app to manage

Most ClickUp MCP servers you’ll find on GitHub make you register your own OAuth app, manage a client ID and secret, and handle token exchange and pagination in code. With Gumloop you just connect your ClickUp account and you’re set. No OAuth app registration, client secrets, or coding against the ClickUp API necessary.

  • Works with multiple MCP clients

Use the ClickUp MCP server endpoint in Claude Desktop, Cursor, or directly inside Gumloop agents. Same server URL, works with any MCP client.

  • Chain ClickUp with 100+ other integrations

Combine ClickUp with Slack, Gmail, Google Sheets, Notion, and other MCP tools in a single AI agent. An agent can pull a request from one tool, process it with an LLM, and file the task back in ClickUp or anywhere else.

  • Enterprise-grade and scalable

Built for teams, with role-based permissions and dedicated support for Pro users. For details on Gumloop’s security practices, see trust.gumloop.com.

  • Start with a free trial

You can test the ClickUp MCP integration during Gumloop’s 14-day free trial before committing. Paid plans start at $37/month.
